Community Engagement and Long-Term Impact:
In the past year, FFH has delivered over 7,000 meals distributed thousands of essential items, and directly supported individuals affected by homelessness across Camden.
We work in areas with a high concentration of rough sleepers and support those at risk of eviction or hidden homelessness.
Recent data indicates 903 individuals were recorded sleeping rough in Camden (source: www.foodforhomeless.co.uk), reinforcing the critical importance of our work.
Many young people in Camden experience homelessness. The Food For Homeless Project ensures they have access to nutritious food, improving their health and enabling them to focus on rebuilding their lives.
• By offering volunteer opportunities, we engage Camden’s youth in community service, fostering empathy and leadership skills.
• We actively engage volunteers from diverse backgrounds, creating a community-driven support network for those in need.
• By respecting cultural dietary preferences, we ensure that everyone feels included and supported.
This project empowers Camden residents to actively engage with their community, fostering a sense of collective responsibility. It also provides opportunities for community members to contribute to the design and delivery of services. Volunteers and participants are encouraged to share ideas for improving our operations and enhancing programme delivery.
This collaborative approach helps shape a more inclusive and responsive initiative, tailored to the evolving needs of the community.
We are focused on building strong, lasting partnerships with local businesses, community groups, and service providers to secure consistent donations of food and supplies, while reducing food waste.
We are also committed to developing a volunteer-driven model. By engaging local volunteers, we can increase our capacity, enhance sustainability, and build a scalable approach to community-led support.
Advice and Referrals:
FFH offers guidance and signposting to those in need of housing and welfare services. We actively connect individuals to:
• - StreetLink, to access emergency accommodation and council outreach teams.
• - Route Off The Streets (RTS) and local crisis support networks.
• - Churches, drop-in centres, and grassroots charities offering specialist help or faith-based support.
This work ensures our beneficiaries are connected to the wider ecosystem of services necessary for long-term change
Sustainability and Climate Action:
FFH supports climate action by reducing food waste through the use of surplus ingredients donated by local suppliers.
These ingredients are repurposed into healthy, hot meals for those in need, aligning with both our sustainability values and food justice mission.
We are committed to operating a more climate-resilient outreach service by providing seasonally appropriate support such as:
• - Sun hats, portable fans, and water during extreme heat.
• - Emergency sleeping bags, blankets, and warm clothing in cold weather.
By incorporating environmental responsibility into our operations, FFH helps build a healthier community while contributing to the UK’s broader climate and sustainability goals.
Our project is sustained through generous donations and grant funding, including support from Camden Council, Camden Giving, and The Social Change Nest CIC. Our finances are transparently managed through the Open Collective platform, where we are fiscally hosted and able to receive donations securely and efficiently.
